02 - 1 small onion, finely chopped
03 - 1 small tomato, diced (optional)
04 - 1/2 cup canned corn kernels, drained (optional)

05 - 1 packet (about 1 ounce) taco seasoning mix
06 - 2 tablespoons tomato paste
07 - 2 tablespoons water

10 - 1/4 cup sour cream
11 - 1/4 cup finely shredded lettuce
12 - 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
13 - 2 tablespoons sliced green onions
14 - 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a standard 12-cup muffin tray.
02 - Press one wonton wrapper into each muffin cup, forming a small cup and allowing the edges to fold up slightly.
03 - Heat a skillet over medium heat, add the ground meat and chopped onion, and cook until evenly browned about 5 to 6 minutes; drain excess fat.
04 - Stir in the tomato paste, taco seasoning, and water, then reduce heat and simmer 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture thickens; fold in diced tomato and corn if using.
05 - Spoon the filling evenly into the prepared wonton cups and sprinkle each with shredded cheese.
06 - Bake 10 to 12 minutes, until the wonton edges are golden and crisp and the cheese is melted.
07 - Allow cups to cool briefly, remove carefully from the tray, top with lettuce, diced tomato, green onions, cilantro and a dollop of sour cream as desired, and serve immediately.

# Additional Tips::

01 -
  • Wonton wrappers bake up impossibly crispy, creating the perfect shell for a savory filling.
  • The whole recipe comes together fast, so you can have fun customizing toppings without spending the day in the kitchen.
02 -
  • One time I filled the cups too full and the cheese bubbled over, welding everything to the pan—less is more here.
  • Letting the cups cool for just a few minutes makes removal from the tray much easier without tearing those crispy shells.
03 -
  • Lightly misting the wonton wrappers with spray oil before baking makes the edges shatteringly crisp.
  • Layer fillings (meat, then cheese, then toppings) for the best melt and texture in every bite.
